Aliplast Expands in Recycled PET with the Acquisition of Gurit Italia
01 April 2025
Aliplast has acquired Gurit Italia’s PET recycling plant, located in the Carmignano di Brenta (PD) facility: a strategic operation that will increase the company's production capacity by approximately 15,000 additional tons of recycled PET per year. This acquisition is part of the broader strategy of the company controlled by Herambiente, part of the Hera Group, to meet the growing demand for recycled PET. This demand has been driven in part by the evolving Italian and European regulatory framework, which, starting this year, requires plastic containers of liquid foodstuff to contain at least 25% of recycled raw material. Additionally, the new European PPWR packaging regulation mandates a larger use of recycled plastic.

The acquired plant, which processes post-consumer PET, will be enhanced with a new PET grinding, washing, and extrusion line, suitable both for food contact applications and for the production of textile fibers and automotive accessories. In addition to increasing production capacity, this acquisition will also help optimize Aliplast’s logistics chain, allowing the company to integrate Gurit’s large storage yards into its flow of goods.
“This acquisition is, first and foremost, in line with our Business plan, which includes the regeneration of resources as one of its qualifying points,” explains Michele Petrone, Aliplast CEO. “It also continues along a path of growth characterised not only by an expansion of production capacity, but also by an increasing focus on quality and traceability, to guarantee customers the highest standards in terms of supply chain transparency and product safety. This is a vision that looks towards the long term and which in 2024 rewarded us with an expansion of our customer base by more than 9% compared to the previous year.”
